On this Mac only requires on-device speech support and an English (US) language pack. It never switches to an online service automatically. A pack download needs internet; the app asks you to click Download first.
Browser service is optional. Your browser may send audio to its speech provider (for example, Google or Apple). You must tick the consent box before starting. This app does not record audio, send it to ChatGPT, or save recognised words. Only text size, spacing, camera position and timed pace are remembered on this browser.

Chrome on Mac: open the HTTPS website or use the local launcher for Voice. Use a full Chrome window for voice practice. On-device recognition is detected at runtime; it may need an English pack. Browser service depends on internet, your browser and permissions.
Safari on Mac: timed and manual modes work without a microphone. Voice availability varies. If “On this Mac only” is unavailable, choose the optional Browser service or use Timed. An API being present does not guarantee recognition will work.
Allow the microphone: click Start in Voice mode, then Allow if asked. In Chrome, check the site controls next to the address or Settings → Privacy and security → Site settings → Microphone. In Safari: Settings → Websites → Microphone. Also check Mac System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone for your browser.

Try a quiet room and your normal voice. Accents, names and background sound can affect recognition. Use Timed or Manual whenever Voice is unreliable. This is a rehearsal aid; it does not record your performance.
Quick voice check: read “Hello, comrades. I know some of you are not happy.” Check that the heard words appear and the highlight moves. Pause and check that it stops. If either fails, use Timed.
Shortcuts do not override sliders or menus while you are adjusting them.
Script: a 600-word version of “I Am Your Leader”, keeping the simple draft from “制定独白计划” and adding 63 words. An imagined speech near the end of the novel; Napoleon’s excuses are deliberately misleading. Quotes and events: Animal Farm, chapters 3, 5, 6, 9 and 10. Pace estimates allow no extra acting pauses.
